Bangkok is the busiest place we have ever been. Just being in the city is an adventure in itself, the motorcyclists are crazy. The most number of people we have seen on a scooter is 5- (the family wagon).
On our first day we visited the Grand Palace which was amazing in both size and detail. In the afternoon we visited more temples including the the marble temple and the reclining Buddha where we dropped 118 coins into 118 metal buckets so that the gods could hear us and grant us good luck.
On day two we drove to the north of bangkok and took a ride down the canals in a long-tail boat to get to the floating markets. Such a different way of life-see photos!
Today we took an original Thai style cooking class! We learnt how to make the best curry pastes and a range of other dishes. Surprisingly, even i could cope with the chili. The other nice surprise about being in bangkok at this time of year is that it is the annual ‘national vegetarian festival’, so all the shops serving vegetarian food display little yellow flags in their windows…perfect.
Off to visit the night markets now…
Yo Folks,
Great to see that things are going so well and that you are getting out and about taking in the culture. That’s the best thing about travel, finding out all about how others live and how lucky we are. If the traffic is anything like Vietnam then it will certainly be a bit of a shock but als a great source of amusement.
That’s great to hear that you have taken a cooking class, we had great fun with our one we took in Vietnam. Did you get any recipe notes? If so you’ll have to find a way to send us a copy.
Not so good news that Miche has had migraine issues, (big brownie points for Mickey though huh 🙂 ?). Also not so sure why the laptop blue screened however this is usually not good news at all. Was it a physical memory dump or didn’t you get to notice? Think you said that you were uploading images so the blue screen might be that you have memory problems. Did you take the old Aussie images off of the laptop as this would free up significant memory? Maybe you should think seriously about getting an external drive before you leave Thailand as it will in all likelihood be cheaper there than later in the trip.
Your mum got away okay yesterday, (Friday) and stayed overnight with Brenda and Jan at Victor Harbour. She rang this morning whilst she was taking a walk around the harbour this morning. They head off down to the ferry later this morning before going over to Kangaroo Island and the ride.
When I got home from Canberra Thursday, (I had quite a good time at the conference), we called around to your place just to say hi to Jane but she wasn’t home so we will drop round again when V gets back from KI. All looked fine there though.
We also called by Elsie, (it’s her birthday Monday), as Vicki was heading off. Elsie was surprisingly chirpy, (we did come baring fish and chips though). She did ask after you and whether we had heard from you.
BTW love the pics though you do need to be careful putting full size camera images direct into the blog as when I checked you had already used almost 1% of your space :(. When you get settled in the UK we shall have to do some refresher work on resizing and best using flickr for the pics.
Anyway enough for now, I’m starving and I still want to mow the grass so catch y’all later, J
Hey kids,
It looks like you had a fantastic time in Thailand!
Hopefully you had some time to relax too. Were things as cheap as you expected? Did you get any clothes made?
Not much to report back here…
* Storm lost the NRL grand final to Manly by 40 points.
* Clare liked her birthday present.
* It’s been less than a week and Pete already has Micki’s signature down pat!
We hope you are having a great time in London and adjusting to the time difference and weather!
Nic & Pete 🙂
Hi Guys
Nice snake, can you pop it in the post, will sell it on EBAY. Scallops have hit plaque proportion off Indented Heads.
Just goes to show the impact we had on the tasty little bliters. Has Mishy cleaned out Bankok of all the chocolate as yet. How you handling the heat, drysuit wouldn’t be much good there. Would be fun to hire a couple of scooters over there but most likely very dangerous. Bruce is still nagging me to do divemaster and his latest is nitros, he wants me to do nitros ticket for later on, the mans out of control. Also wants to start a website and sell Scubapro products. Take care and don’t forget to post a few ladette pics. Cheers guys, take care.
